THE MAN CALLED GARRI (Things you don't know about Garri)

Image
Garri, is processed cassava tubers, and has become a much wanted staple food in Nigeria. Once considered to be food for the poor, garri is gradually slipping out of the reach of ordinary Nigerians who sometimes cannot do without helping themselves to a plate of eba (or garri flour mixed in hot water) or its soaked version every day. Someone once shared with me that the businesses that will continue as long as human civilisation remains are those businesses that meet the basic needs of man, i.e. food, clothing, health, and shelter. There is a great sense in this. This is because as long as we are alive, we would require good and quality food, good clothing, good shelter and good health to lead an acceptable level of existence. Nigerian communities must begin to look at developing businesses that can address these basic needs. This is why garri processing plant is one great business opportunity that fits this mould. The industrial processing of cassava in Nigeria holds much potentia

Brief History of Yoruba with Balogun Familusi Olaoluwa

*Before Oyo* The peoples who lived in Yorubaland, at least by the seventh century BC, were not initially known as the Yoruba, although they shared a common ethnicity and language group. The historical Yoruba develop in situ, out of earlier (Mesolithic)Volta-Niger populations, by the 1st millennium BC. Archaeologically, the settlement at Ile-Ife can be dated to the 4th century BC, with urban structures appearing in the 12th century (the urban phase of Ile-Ife before the rise of Oyo, ca. 1100-1600, is sometimes described as a "golden age" of Ile-Ife).  *Now the Oyo Empire* Ife was surpassed by the Oyo Empire as the dominant Yoruba military and political power between 1600 and 1800 AD. The nearby kingdom of Benin was also a powerful force between 1300 and 1850. Most of the city states were controlled by Obas, elected priestly monarchs, and councils made up of Oloyes, recognised leaders of royal, noble, and often even common descent, who joined them in ruling over the ki

RECOGNIZE WHEN TO BE SILENT with Aina Omowunmi Adenodi

Recognise When To Be Silent: Aina Omowumi Adenodi  Silence is the lack or absence of audible sound, or complete stillness/muteness. Silence is not always a sign of weakness, it is a sign and source of great strength.    There are times, circumstances and situations when words are just not necessary. In such cases, it is not because it is not important, or that you are a coward, it is not just the right time to speak.       Everyone must know when not to speak, and one of such times, is when you sense an argument or perhaps it has begun already and your words are referred to in a way that is totally different from what you actually meant, at that time, act wise and be quiet, because if you continue, it will only fuel the situation and make it even worse. Never miss a good chance to shut up, because it is not necessary to respond to every word spoken to you (positive or negative). Your silence serves as a weapon that guards you against trouble and wicked people, the Bible

STRANGERS IN THE UNKNOWN LAND

THE UNKNOWN LAND human being lives in is a mystery. Today, something is created from the dust. Tomorrow, something created from the dust returns to become dust again. The Creator Creates; and the Creator takes. So does the rotation occur in every 365/366 days. Because we are all STRANGERS and visitors in the UNKNOWN LAND. Your certificate of education will no longer exist. Your riches and wealth will no longer be able to buy luxurious possessions. Your wisdom, knowledge and understanding will quench like when water quenches a blazing fire. Because we are all STRANGERS in the UNKNOWN LAND. Your mouth that is full of authority will no longer be able to control even a teenager. Your riches and wealth will no longer be able to hold the poor captive. Your mind and body full of powers will no longer be able to enforce sufferings on any man. Your tongue that lashes pains, curses, pride and selfish words will lie still. Your body will become a feeding ground for another creatu

INCESSANT ACCIDENTS ON NIGERIAN ROAD (Ariyo Gbemisola)

INCESSANT ACCIDENTS ON NIGERIAN ROAD The alarming increase in the incidence of accidents on Nigerian roads is a source of worry to many people within and outside the country. Roads accidents are daily occurrences across the country and many Nigerians have lost their lives through those accidents while many others have been maimed. According to United Nations reports, about fifteen thousand Nigerians die yearly through accident, what could have been responsible for this alarming rate of accident? There are number of factors responsible. First and foremost, majority of the drivers are reckless in driving. It seems as if there is no traffic laws in Nigeria as many drivers do not obey traffic rules. As a results of their poor attitude towards obeying traffic rules, many drives recklessly not minding the safety of other road users. Secondly, many drives under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Government tried their best to stop people from taking hard drugs but they choose t

THE BREAK with Akindayomi Samuel

The BREAK When I retire to bed every evening ruminating over life, I discovered that: Sometimes, to succeed in life you need ENEMIES.... Yes!!! You need people who will mock you, so that you can run to God. You need people who will try to intimidate you, so that you can be courageous. You need people who will say "NO" so that you can learn how to be independent...I mean how to do it yourself. You need people who will disappoint you so that you can put all your trust in God alone. You need people who will work towards you loosing that job, so that you can start your own big business. You need people who will sell your 'Joseph' so that 'you' can get to Egypt and be a Prime Minister in a strange land of captivity. You need a cruel landlord, so that you won't be too comfortable in someone else's house, then you can build your own house on time. But sometimes, when we are disappointed, we feel very bad and we tend to remain on that spot.

2018 DIGEST with Aina Omowumi Adenodi

ENCOURAGEMENT The world has enough critics already, be an encourager. Encouragement is something or words that makes someone more hopeful, determined or confident to take certain steps. Most of us, swimming against the tides of trouble the world knows nothing about, needs only a bit of praise or encouragement ~and we will make the goal.  There comes that certain time when you really need to calm down and think of all the steps you've taken, and the ones you are about to take, and then you come to realise that it's so easy to propose on something you want, you imagine it, and you see it coming through as expected, you strategize your plans and set your targets, these you do mostly at the commencement of a new season or year (just like this time), deep inside of you, you list out things you want, and those you don't want, along side things you will start doing and those you will stop doing, these things are your priority in the early days of the year, they keep ringing

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI'S 2018 NEW YEAR ADDRESS

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI’S 2018 NEW YEAR ADDRESS I join my fellow citizens this morning to welcome and celebrate the New Year 2018. This year promises to be pivotal in our quest for CHANGE. Unfortunately, I am saddened to acknowledge that for many this Christmas and New Year holidays have been anything but merry and happy. Instead of showing love, companionship and charity, some of our compatriots chose this period to inflict severe hardship on us all by creating unnecessary fuel scarcity across the country. The consequence was that not many could travel and the few who did had to pay exorbitant transport fares. This is unacceptable given that NNPC had taken measures to ensure availability at all depots. I am determined to get to the root of this collective blackmail of all Nigerians and ensure that whichever groups are behind this manipulated hardship will be prevented from doing so again. Such unpatriotism will not divert the Administration from the course we have set ourselves
