Dr. Ikubese Appeal to Ondo State government on increased tuition at AAUA

AN APPEAL TO THE GOVT OF ONDO STATE ON INCREASED TUITION AT ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY AKUNGBA.

"The current economic realities can no longer sustain the status quo".

Funds for running educational institutions don't have to be generated exclusively from tuition fees.

The university should be encouraged to embark radically on entrepreneurial drives and generate funds thereby, wherein tuition becomes but secondary funds.

While we may need to marginally review the fees to meet increasing demands of running the institution, I do not agree with the percentage of increment; from N35,000 to N180,000 (414% increment) in a non-residential institution where off-campus accommodation sometimes costs as much as N70,000 annually.

A widow with two children (male/female) in AAUA is now required to pay N500,000 every session.

Many parents/guardians in Ondo state  certainly will not be able to afford this, with dastardly consequences on the future of these students and society at large.

I want to appeal to Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, the Executive Governor of Ondo State to reverse this increment in the interest of posterity to a quantum that is yet affordable by the majority of our people.

If the fees is left as it is, many students of AAUA will drop out of school, while others may be forced to engage in unholy activities as to raise their tuition fees.

May such a negative tale not be traced to this administration.

God bless our Sunshine state.
