Doctor Wilson Ikubese Prescribed Drugs For Sick Nigeria

Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, C.E.O of Sckye Hospital speaking in a church youth program gave his prescriptions to our sick Nigeria while delivering a speech on a topic “Roles of Youths in Governance”.
The Doctor was one of the motivational speakers at a youth program held at the church headquarter of Prayer Center Church of God in Akure yesterday, he opened his speech by expressing his bitterness over the current state of Nigeria.” I am here today with tears in my heart” he said.
He said in 2011, he wrote a book which he titled “My Prescriptions for Nigeria” where as a doctor has diagnosed Nigeria’s sickness and has therefore recommended medicines which he believed if implemented will cure the Nation.
According to the doctor, he already sent the book to the Presidency shortly after Rtd. Gen. Muhamadu Buhari became President and only two of his 23 prescriptions have been implemented thus far. The Doctor shared some of his prescriptions with the Youths;
IMPORTATION: The doctor said for Nigeria to develop and experience economic growth, it must shun importation of goods that can be locally made. He gave an example of Innosson Motor in Nnewi, Anambra State that has been producing series of cars but government has never patronized its products. He cited that recently delegates from Mali came down to Nigeria to purchase 400 units of vehicles form the company while Nigeria where it’s been produced patronizes from made vehicles.
STATE OF ORIGIN: He said that to ensure unity and oneness in the country, we must scrap “State of Origin” and its stead use “State of Residence” while profiling an individual. There should be a favorable situation where someone from Kaduna having resided in Ondo state for over five years can contest for any political sit in the state. This can be seen in developed countries like America and England.
TRUE FEDERALISM: There is the need to reduce the power and financial strength at the center for stronger and more responsible federating units.
Therefore, that each States in Nigeria should be granted autonomy over the utilization of their natural resources and in turn pay certain percentage of revenue generated into federal purse.
He said this will enable states to develop on their own without having to depend on the federal government and civil servants will not be owed.
He used Ondo State as an example, stating that the composition of Bitumen in the state is enough to develop it, but can’t mine it because it’s federally controlled.
STATE POLICE: To ensure effectiveness and effectiveness in policing, states should be allowed their own policemen. “Someone from Nazzarawa should not be deployed to police Akure, when he/she knows nothing about the geographical setting of the city”. If states are granted autonomy over police force, indigenes will be recruited and there will be assurance of safety of lives and property. Why? Because the policemen will be protecting not only their family but their own land.
SECURITY VOTE: For many years, elected chief executives have been hiding under ‘security votes’ to budget for themselves millions of naira every month without any form of accountability on how such money is spent. All governors of the states receives as much as #500million security vote fund from federal government monthly and are not accounted for. He recommended accountability for all these funds.
CONSTITUTION : The doctor said 95% of Nigeria citizen doesn’t know what the constitution of Nigeria entails. Therefore, the people are benighted of their rights and duties as a citizen. “We don’t have to be a lawyer to be acquainted with our constitution. If we are well informed about the constitution, we won’t be cheated by politicians” he said. He therefore recommended that the constitution of Nigeria should be taught as a compulsory subject in Secondary Schools like English and Math.
SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP: “politics should not be an avenue to amass wealth” the doctor cried. He said leadership should be all about service and not to be served. He therefore recommended that there should be a “School of Leadership” in some Nigerian Universities where one can obtain a certificate of study in leadership and Governance. This certificate should be important indispensable criteria for been eligible to be voted for as either president or governor.
EXECUTIVE SALARIES: He said Nigeria democracy is the most expensive in the world, as 70% of revenue generated are been used to pay salaries while other 30% is for development. He gave analysis of what senators in Nigeria gets monthly, quarterly and in a year. He said as at 2011 when he wrote his book, a Nigerian senator receives an excess of #353million in a year when dollar rate was at #167/$. He therefore prescribed that senators should be paid only base of their sittings. Also, Governors salaries should be cut with a little variation over the salaries of head of service.
NATIONAL ASSEMBLY: He said Nigeria has two legislative arms and each comprises of 109 Senators and 160 Reps. He asked, “Why must we keep two legislative arms and that number of representatives?” he therefore recommended a prune of one arm, and numbers of Senators minimized.
CHARACTER CERTIFICATE: Before anyone can be eligible to contest for any election in Nigeria, he/her character must be screened. He said a “certificate of character” should be issued by their alma mater which should clearly give details of their characters when they were students in that school. If there be any account of rape, cultism and other vices, they should be disqualified. This will enable youths who nurses political ambitions to flee from any vices that could taint their future.
ELECTION AND TRIBUNAL: Before now, pronounced victors of election would have been sworn in before Tribunal Court is set up for losing parties to remonstrate their dissatisfaction. He recommended that the swearing in of any winner of an election should be after Tribunal court hearing and everything should not span beyond 3 months.
TENURE OF OFFICE: Doctor Wilson suggested that there should be a scrap of two terms in governance and recommended a six years single term.
LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR LOOTERS : Stringent punitive measures should be accorded to looters of public fund. He recommended a life imprisonment sentence without an option of fine and forfeiture of properties including that of their wives and children. He explained why he included wives and children saying that most politicians acquire properties in the names of their families.
ACTIVE CORRUPTION COURT: the doctor made his final prescription saying that there should be an active corruption court. This should be a court where corrupt leaders can be charged, and passed judgment within the space of six months.
On his final note, he encouraged the youths to arise and be functional at their roles in governance. With a melancholic tone, he asked “who is that person to administer these prescriptions to the ailing Nigeria?”
